Thanks to a grant from the Berrien Community Foundation, a Michigan teacher will be able to teach her students about how maple syrup is made and why trees give us sap.

MLive.com reports 19 teachers in the county were awarded $500 grants as part of the foundation's Golden Acorn Classroom Mini Grants program.

The grants are awarded twice a year and can be used for any classroom project.

One teacher, Kathy Hollacher, will use her grant to tap maple trees in front of her school and teach students about how maple syrup is made and why trees give us sap, MLive.com reports.
